TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) chairperson, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, on Sunday defends why the omnibus job creation law had to be deliberated amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“Why wasn’t it focused on COVID-19, we must see that the omnibus law deliberation did not take a month or two but was deliberated since February and had only been completed recently,” said the Kadin chair on Sunday’s virtual seminar on October 18.

He then defends that neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Thailand had conducted structural reform back in 2010 and 2015, and argues that Indonesia will not be able to attract investors as the pandemic passes.

“Once the COVID-19 ends, it will be the same old story where investments go to Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand,” Rosan argues.

Rosan deemed it important to attract the massive wave of relocations of international corporations from China amidst the pandemic and that the omnibus job creation law would be one of Indonesia’s ways to attract them and be competitive in the international stage.

“They do not want their global supply chain focused in China,” said Rosan.
