TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Central Kalimantan Police Chief, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, announced that journalists covering today’s protests in the region will be given a special vest that would better identify journalists in the field.
The police chief refers to the orange vests with an identifiable “PRESS” description that will be given to journalists.
“This is to prevent any incidents of violence on journalists as they cover the protest. It is also to prevent misidentification at the location,” Dedi wrote in the press release on Monday, October 12.
He claims that police personnel have always been ordered to protect journalists in the field. This announcement comes after a number of journalists reporting to have been treated with violence during last week’s anti-omnibus law protests.
