Anies Baswedan Worried New COVID-19 Cluster to Emerge from Omnibus Law Protest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed concern over the emergence of the COVID-19 infection cluster among protesters and in universities following the demonstration against the Job Creation Omnibus Law in Jakarta.
“We will later see it (tracing). I am clearly worried about it, including the crowd, because they are all at risk [of virus transmission],” said Anies in Hotel Indonesia or HI Roundabout on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
Thus, after meeting the protesters, Anies demanded all of them to maintain public order and return to their homes.
“We appreciate the personnel of Kodam Jaya (Military Command) and Metro Jaya Police for facilitating the protesters to go home,” Anies added.
The Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Dudung Abdurrachman said his side coordinated with universities to secure students joining the rally. “We have coordinated to secure the protesters, and we deliver them by trucks to campuses,” Dudung said.
When asked about the protest that ended in chaos, Dudung said the situation around ring one was safe. “There is no more riot, it is all safe,” he claimed.
Earlier, Anies Baswedan showed up among anti-Omnibus Law protesters in HI Roundabout and demanded them to leave the location and go home. Most of them were then sent using military trucks to their respective campuses.
