Rioters Wreck Prisoner Transport Bus in Jakarta's Tanah Abang

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police announced that a prisoner transport vehicle sustained heavy damage after it became the target of a group of people in the Pejompongan Raya area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 7.

Metro Jaya’s traffic director Sr. Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the incident happened around 16:00 today as the vehicle was heading to the location.

“But the prisoner transport vehicle was blocked by a group of rioters and was subjected to their anarchic behavior,” said Sambodo at the location this afternoon.

Based on Tempo’s observation at the site, the medium-sized bus sustained heavy damage after it had likely been tipped over by a group of rioters.

Police are investigating this incident as police personnel is profusely guarding the capital city against massive waves of protests following the legalization of the Job Creation Law on Monday.
