TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil suggested the public first accept the enactment of the omnibus bill on Job Creation to law by the House of Representatives (DPR). If the law is deficient, he said, it could be proposed for evaluation.

“My advice is, accept it first. Then in a year or two evaluate it (the law) whether its implementation causes welfare for the people, the economy. If it is in deficiency, we revise it and evaluate it. If it is good, we can continue it,” said Ridwan in Bandung on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

The governor also called on all elements to monitor the implementation of the omnibus law. “We must not be rigid. There must be dynamics in this matter. The response is not necessarily successful nor failed as it depends on the situation,” Ridwan Kamil said.

The House of Representatives (DPR) on Monday, October 5, passed the omnibus law on jobs. All party factions agreed to the ratification, except the Democrats Party and PKS.

The passage of the law sparked objections from workers. Since the drafting, several points in the bill were considered detrimental to labor’s interests, starting from articles on severance pay, working hours, up to the rights for leave. Many labor unions and civil society organizations then took to the street to protest the Job Creation Law.
