TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Fraksi Rakyat Indonesia (FRI), which comprise various mass organizations, on Monday declared a motion of no confidence against the Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR), which is mainly driven by the plans to pass the Job Creation Omnibus Bill.
“The people are demanding the Job Creation Omnibus bill be dropped. The government and the parliament have betrayed the people and the constitution,” wrote Greenpeace Indonesia campaign spokesperson Asep Komaruddin in Monday’s press release.
In their statement, FRI lamented that the government and the House continue to push for the passing of the bill, which had sparked widespread protests from members of the public, especially amid the current economic recession and COVID-19 pandemic.
“This shows that the government and the DPR support the colonization from evil investors and corruptors,” they wrote.
FRI also blasted the government for allegedly planning to bring workers and people planning to join the protest against the bill or go on strike to court. It reminded the government that such protests are protected under the constitution.
Moreover, FRI encouraged people to continue echoing the motion of no confidence against the government and the DPR and called for Indonesians to support the mass-protest against the passing of the Omnibus bill.
