TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that the government will continue to push for the passing of the widely protested omnibus bill to better attract investments amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are pushing for the passing of the omnibus law and support businesses and people that are affected by COVID-19,” wrote Luhut Pandjaitan on Thursday, October 1.

He claimed the omnibus draft bill is key to ease investments into Indonesia with mainly sets of laws prepared to simplify the process for investors to obtain permits up to establishing special economic sectors.

According to Luhut Pandjaitan, the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia since March this year not only caused humanitarian disaster due to its death toll, but also the great effects it had on the economy.

“The pandemic caused people’s buying power to drop and hugely affects consumption,” said Luhut.

A number of foreign investments has settled in Indonesia, namely from China, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Africa, and a number of western countries.
