TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Religious Affairs Ministry's Umrah and Hajj director, M. Arfi Hatim, on Thursday said the government is preparing a regulation overseeing the Umrah pilgrimage amidst the global pandemic.

"The regulation will highlight the health and safety aspects of the pilgrims," He said in the press release on Thursday, Sept, 24.

It oversees the implementation of health protocols, age limits, and provisions regarding congenital diseases.

The regulation will also overlook aspects related to transportation and umrah pilgrimage service providers, aiming to prevent from creating COVID-19 clusters after the pilgrims return to Indonesia.

Arfi Hatim maintained that the regulation will closely observe the regulations introduced by Saudi Arabia upon hosting umrah trips amidst COVID-19.

The Religious Affairs ministry called for people to be patient and wait for Saudi Arabia to produce an official policy regarding Umrah pilgrimages. He also assured that Indonesia will prioritize those who had their pilgrimage postponed in February this year.
