Govt Issues New Bicycle Regulation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The transportation ministry has officially issued Regulation No.59/2020 on cyclists' safety on public roads which has been implemented since September 14.
The regulation will subject cyclists to a number of safety requirements for both the bicycle and rider. Items that will be made compulsory include fenders, brakes, headlights, a red bicycle reflector, and reflectors that are either colored white or red placed on the pedals.
Cyclists must also wear reflective clothes, wear foot attributes, and follow the traffic law. However, fenders are exempted for race bikes, mountain bikes, and other bicycles.
The regulation also bans bicycles from being pulled by a motorized vehicle in speeds that are dangerous, bicycles are also not permitted to carry passengers except those that have a separate back seat for passengers.
Cyclists are also banned from cycling and operating mobile devices except for the use of headsets or headphones.
