TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Agency (BP2MI) assisted the stranded 52 Indonesian migrant workers that arrived from Saudi Arabia on late Thursday at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“We have taken the migrant workers home after they went viral on social media for being stranded in Saudi Arabia, a total of 52 troubled migrant workers,” said the head of the BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani, on Thursday.

He explained the Indonesian migrant workers had departed from Indonesia through non-procedural routes and were believed to be victims of a global human trafficking syndicate.

Based on the Youtube video on the migrant workers, Benny believes they were stranded in Saudi Arabia because they had never received their wages since 2018. In the wake of the video, the BP2MI immediately coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to plan their return.

According to Benny, these migrant workers were deployed by Indonesian migrant workers companies El-Safah, Putra Timur Mandiri, and Anugrah Sumber Rezeki. He said the BP2MI would report the companies to the Police's Criminal Investigation Department.
