TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Yogyakarta administration was watching out for the worst impact on its region once Jakarta large-scale social restriction or PSBB reimposed on Monday, September 14, 2020. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the total restriction policy aimed at suppressing the Covid-19 transmission in the capital.

As in the previous PSBB, Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono feared there will be another wave of massive homecoming from the capital city to several regions, including Yogyakarta.

“What should be headed up is that on September 14, Jakarta will enforce PSBB as before,” said Sultan HB X on Thursday, September 10.

The people’s movement will surely be limited so Sultan feared people will be triggered to leave the area before the local lockdown begins. “We are worried that Yogyakarta people living in Jakarta will return before the PSBB is enacted,” said Sultan.

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, before several regions implemented local lockdown, there was a wave of massive homecoming to rural regions. The Yogyakarta administration recorded tens of thousands of people returning to their hometowns. This, of course, increased the potential Covid-19 transmission.

Meanwhile, the curve of positive cases in Yogyakarta has not yet declined. There was even the emergence of new clusters. Thus, the governor demanded every regency and city administration to anticipate the entry of people, especially to tourist areas.

“We have demanded the task force to anticipate the potential arrival of homecomers from the capital. Hopefully, it will not occur,” Sultan HB X said.
