Java Island, Bali, Constitute 64 Percent of Indonesia's COVID-19 Cases

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national COVID-19 task force on Wednesday said Bali and Java Island contribute to 64.26 percent of Indonesia’s total COVID-19 cases.

“The contribution from Java Island and Bali is pretty huge, up to 64.26 percent with 114,590 cases in total. This is as of September 6," said Dewi Nur Aisyah, member of the COVID-19 task force on Wednesday, September 9.

Based on the national mapping of the COVID-19 spread across Indonesia’s five islands, the third-largest contributor for coronavirus cases is Sumatra with 20,150 cases (11.3 percent). The fourth island contributing the largest cases is Sulawesi (18.960 cases) while the rest comprise Kalimantan (16,915), Maluku and Papua.

Java and Bali also take the highest spot in terms of active cases (23,220) followed by Sumatra (7,779) and Sulawesi (3,771).

However, on the lighter side of things, the number of recoveries in Java and Bali also records as the highest with 85,772 recoveries, which is followed by Sulawesi (14,597), Kalimantan (12,551), Sumatra (11,533), and Maluku and Papua with 5,279 recoveries.
