TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Depok COVID-19 mitigation task force spokesman Dadang Wihana confirmed the city did not impose a curfew, but rather restricted out-of-home activities.

“We need to clarify this, Depok does not impose a curfew as it is circulated in the public,” Danang told reporters on Monday, August 31.

Danang explained that public activities are limited up to 8 p.m. People who worked until late would be permitted so long as they had their ID, a letter of assignment, and others.

According to him, the regulation is issued as an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 in the city. “We know there is a high surge in positive cases in Jabodetabek (Jakarta Greater Area) and Depok, so we must take tactical steps to prevent virus transmission,” Dadang remarked.

As for the sanctions, he added, they would be applied based on the Mayoral Regulation No. 37/2020 on the guidelines of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB). “It is still in the form of administrative sanctions,” he said.

The Depok administration previously announced restrictions on residents' activities at night starting Monday, August 31, 2020.

Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris said shopping centers and cafes were asked to close at 6 p.m., except for delivery services that are allowed up to 9 p.m. Residents are also barred from doing outdoor activities after 8 p.m.
