TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission for Agrarian Reform Coalition (KNPA) urged the Central Kalimantan police to announce the whereabouts of the Laman Kinipan indigenous community chief Effendi Buhing, who was arrested by the police on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

The KNPA claimed that Effendi's attorney is yet to be informed about where the community chief is being held.

"We still don't know about the whereabouts of Pak Buhing," said Dimas Novian Hartono, Executive Director of the Central Kalimantan Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI), in a virtual press conference on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Moreover, Secretary-General of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) Rukka Sombolinggi demanded the police to remain open about the chief's whereabouts and strongly criticizes the Central Kalimantan Police Chief who claims that Effendi refused to be cooperative throughout the police questioning.

Rukka Sombolinggi asserts that Effendi has the right to be accompanied by a lawyer through his police questioning and demands police to remain cooperative with others who attempt to defend the Laman Kinipan indigenous community chief.

"Tell us, show us where he is since nothing needs to be hidden from us," Rukka asserts.
