Wishnutama: Reopening of Movie Theaters Will Revive Film Industry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio said the reopening of movie theaters in a number of regions declared safe from Covid-19 would revive the film industry and creative economy sector in Indonesia.
In his statement on Wednesday, August 26, the minister expressed his support to the plan of the Covid-19 mitigation task force and the Jakarta provincial administration to reopen cinemas in the near future.
“With cinemas resuming operations, this will cause a great impact on the development of the creative economy, especially the movie sector,” he added.
Previously, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that cinemas in Jakarta would reopen soon under the strict health protocols.
The minister, who was the founder of NET TV, claimed he had previously proposed to the Covid-19 mitigation task force to push for the reopening of cinemas, especially in Jakarta areas.
Therefore, he said that his side had prepared various things to support the reopening of cinemas in the era of adaptation to a new normal, such as issuing a handbook of health protocols based on cleanliness, healthy, safety, and environmental sustainability (CHSE) for cinema operators and visitors.
Additionally, Wishnutama said the ministry had carried out simulations of the reopening and the implementation of health protocols in movie theaters since July 2020.
