Anies Baswedan's Stand Upon Reopening Movie Theaters amid COVID-19

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, said that the city administration has always referred to studies conducted by experts regarding the handling and management of movie theaters. The statement comes after the administration announced that it will soon allow movie theaters to open.
Anies states that 47 countries have operated their movie theaters amid the pandemic.
"Even South Korea is not closing its movie theaters throughout the pandemic, even throughout its peak," said Anies in a virtual press conference with the national disaster mitigation agency (BNPB).
From the studies Anies mentioned, he cited one strict health restriction that is imposed to prevent movie theaters from becoming Covid-19 clusters. Anies said that visitors should not talk with each other.
"The moviegoers don't talk to each other. This is different from cafes and restaurants," said Anies who said that forward-facing seats in theaters as the crucial element that prevent people from talking directly to each other.
