TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of college students and labors joined in the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) arrived at the headquarters of the House of Representatives (DPR) to protest against the drafting of the job creation bill contained in the omnibus bill on Tuesday, August 25.

The roughly 300 student protestors from Muhammadiyah University marched from a nearby checkpoint and arrived in front of the DPR headquarters at 3 p.m., just as the workers - that had been protesting there hours earlier - completed their demonstration against the omnibus law and the string of layoffs.

The laborers welcomed the arrival of the students and were responded by the students’ orators by declaring the collective goal between the two parties. Hundreds of additional workers joined the student protest.

“Today, we prove that students have arrived here together with laborers under one goal, which is to voice the refusals against Omnibus Law that have come from multiple aspects of society,” said the Muhammadiyah Sukabumi orator.

The situation remained under control and peaceful and had dispersed early after the protestors were informed that DPR legislators had finished work early.
