TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting chairman of the Indonesia Solidarity Party (PSI) Giring Ganesha, announced that he would run for the 2024 presidential election. The former pop singer known by his stage name Giring Nidji, said that he is driven by the desire to be involved in Indonesia's political scene that would help determine the country's future.

His declaration has been exhibited in a number of billboards located in Riau and Solo with the accompanying tagline "Giring for President 2024."

"I, Giring Ganesha, will run as a candidate for the 2014 presidency. Grant me the chance to serve you, the people," said Giring in a press conference on Monday, August 24, 2020.

Moreover, he acknowledged that it was a difficult decision to make especially during times - which he claims - is a phase where people have either lost interest, cynical, or pessimistic towards politics.

"The path I have chosen will not be easy. During times where people have lost interest, cynical, or pessimistic towards politics, but I chose to get involved," said the former lead vocalist of Nidji.

Giring also shared his views regarding Indonesia's future and is eager to make Indonesia a producer and not just a consumer country. Giring also looks forward to build the country's economy through a scheme that not only utilizes natural resources.
