Police Investigate Fire at Attorney General's Office; Case Files are Safe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police announced on Monday, Auguat 24, 2020, that it has established two special teams to investigate and help solve the fire that burned the Attorney General's Office (AGO) building.

Both teams' tasks are divided into two aspects, the first team is tasked to investigate the AGO headquarter construction while the second team will focus on finding the source of the fire and conduct a thorough examination on the building's electrical system.

"We have divided, two teams, the forensic laboratory [puslabfor] and the fingerprint identification team [inafis] have moved in to check the building's construction," said Metro Jaya Police spokesperson, Grand Commissioner Yusri Yunus at the Metro Jaya headquarters on Monday, August 24, 2020.

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) headquarters was engulfed in fire on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at around 7:00 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB). According to eyewitness reports, the fire first started to engulf the AGO's sixth floor which eventually spread to the entire building structure.

Not long after the incident, the South Jakarta fire department mobilized 43 fire trucks along with hundreds of firefighters to battle the blaze. Attorney General ST Burhanudin assured that documentation on cases, confiscated pieces of evidence, and AGO prisoners are safe.
