TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two of Indonesia’s most notable film directors, Angga Dwimas Sasongko and Joko Anwar had blasted the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (kemenparekraf) for utilizing Galeri Indonesia Kaya and Boow Live’s digital poster without consent, and worse, removing symbols of the original creator.

The poster in question was posted on Kemenparekraf’s official Instagram page - which has been taken down due to complaints - that retells traditional Indonesian folklore.

The musical theater initially entitled Malin Kundang but was posted in the ministry’s Instagram page with a rebranded title Musikal Dirumah Aja (stay home musical).

Angga Dwimas took this matter to Twitter on Tuesday, August 18, and quipped the ministry over the blunder by highlighting the attempt to rebrand the program without consent and questioning their role that should be at the forefront of respecting people’s intellectual rights or HAKI.

Echoing Angga’s dissatisfaction toward the ministry, Gundala director Joko Anwar said that the ministry’s actions could not be justified and asserted the incident as “truly embarrassing.”

“Galeri Indonesia Kaya and Boow Live made a musical theater. The promo was then stolen, modified, and posted onto the Kemenparekraf website (it’s since been taken down following protests). The original logo of the organizer was erased and replaced with the kemenparekraf logo. What is happening? This is truly embarrassing,” Joko Anwar tweeted on Tuesday, August 18.
