TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police confirmed that the death of Metro TV editor Yodi Prabowo was a suicidal case based on the two-week investigation. The police reveal five facts about why Yodi killed himself.

1. Depression

Based on the investigation of Yodi’s bank account, the police found that prior to the incident, Yodi visited Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta for an HIV check. The authorities suspected that Yodi was in a depression that can be seen from his visit to the hospital for an HIV check.

It was also found that Yodi consumed amphetamine or ecstasy that may make him hallucinate and eventually dare to stab himself.

2. The victim bought the knife to stab himself

The Metro TV editor bought himself a knife that he used to stab his chest and neck at Ace Hardware in Rempoa, South Tangerang on Tuesday, July 7, at 14:47.

On the same day at around 24:00, Yodi died of stab wounds in the chest and neck.

“He was caught buying a knife at Ace Hardware on a CCTV camera,” said the Jakarta Metro Police Chief of Criminal Unit Tubagus Ade Hidayat at his office in South Jakarta on Saturday, July 25.

He bought the Rp89,000 knife during his trip to the office from home.

3. Conflict with girlfriend

The police said, based on the investigation, Yodi was conflicting with his girlfriend and a close friend, before the incident. Yodi repeatedly told his girlfriend that he wanted to end his life, said Tubagus.

The police are investigating if this conflict was the main cause of Yodi’s depression.

4. No blood splatter around the location

The investigators ascertain that Yodi suicided as no blood splatter around the location. Tubagus said the blood splatter was only found at the place where Yodi died.

“Based on the inspection at the crime scene, there was no blood splatter in other areas except at the location where he fell. Well, there was very little blood found on the wall but it was the victim’s,” Tubagus said.

Besides, the police did not find any signs that showed others’ presence at the crime scene. The authorities also did not find any signs of resistance or fighting from Yodi’s body.

5. Suicide attempt wounds

The police found 4 stab wounds in the chest and neck as Yodi attempted to stab himself with the knife.

“Based on forensic psychology, suicide attempt wounds would be found on those who try to kill themselves. In this case, the superficial wounds are the proofs,” Tubagus said.

There were three superficial stab wounds of 2 centimeters and one deep wound in the chest, while there were one superficial wound and one deep wound on the neck that killed the victim.
