TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Palace stated that Indonesia’s COVID-19 mitigation is on the right track when compared to other countries. More than 215 countries in the world reportedly take hits from the pandemic on the economic and health sector.

“We are on the right track,” said Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung via a teleconference from the Presidential Office on Tuesday, July 21.

The claim, Pramono elaborated, is based on three factors. First, the number of patients drops from time to time. Secondly, the recovery rate increases. “What does it mean? The mitigation is carried out well,” he added.

As of Monday, July 20, Indonesia has 88,214 positive cases since the first confirmed cases announced on March 2. The figure has surpassed China, where the virus first spread.

However, Pramono claimed the country’s pandemic mitigation is improving, which is evident from a decline in death tolls and a surge in recoveries.

The other factor is the development of the vaccine that has been started. Indonesia is set to hold the third phase of the clinical test for the vaccine that is developed in cooperation with China-based pharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech.

“If it is approved in December or January, the COVID-19 vaccine will be mass-produced and distributed to all provinces, especially to eight main provinces,” said Pramono Anung.
