TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring at 5.5 magnitudes on the Richter scale jolted Selayar Island, South Sulawesi, earlier today, July 15.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported via its official account that the quake occurred at 06:33 a.m local times.

“[There is] a 5.5 magnitude quake on July 15, 2020, at 06:33:58 Western Indonesian Time (WIB),” the BMKG tweeted on Wednesday.

The quake’s epicenter was located at 7.40 degrees south latitude and 120.53 degrees east longitude, precisely at 123 kilometers southeast of Selayar, South Sulawesi.

The BMKG added that the quake was at a depth of 600 kilometers and had no potential to trigger a tsunami.

“The quake was felt at II MMI level in Denpasar, Bali,” it added. The scale level means the tremor was only felt by some people at rest, especially those in the upper floors of buildings.
