TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir responded to the recent reshuffle issue following President Jokowi's anger toward the Covid-19 mitigation in Indonesia that was deemed not optimum.

Erick Thohir asserted that as a minister, he had to be ready for any risk. "We have to be ready for the appointment [as the minister] or the dismissal," he said in footage of his interview with Kompas TV sent by the ministry's public relations office on Saturday, July 11.

He added that the president has the prerogative rights to evaluate his ministers. "If you don't want to [take the risk] don't be a minister."

However, the minister also said the issue widely discussed by the public is part of the democratic process. "So, we have to enjoy it," Erick Thohir remarked.

The rumor of a reshuffle emerged after a video of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo showing him giving orders and warnings towards his Cabinet members on June 18. The meeting saw Jokowi highlighting his state-ministers upon the handling of COVID-19.

In the video, the president also said that he would not hesitate to disband state-agencies or reshuffle his Cabinet members.
