Police Say Menteng Explosion Not an Act of Terror

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Jakarta Police Precinct Chief, Sr. Comr. Heru Novianto said the explosion in Menteng was not linked to acts of terror. The blast, he said, was categorized as low explosive—small that even the police called it a "firecracker".
"No [it was not an act of terror]. Terrorists usually want victims and the explosives they use are a danger to those nearby," Heru said in Jakarta, Sunday, July 5.
Heru said the explosion in Menteng had no casualties, so the police assume that it is not linked to any terrorist network. However, he said that the police will further investigate the incident.
He added that, according witnesses' accounts, the explosion was small and only caused car tires to break. The police are still going through security cameras' footage and witnesses testimonies, as well as investigate the scene to find out who set up the explosive and for what reason.
On Sunday afternoon, an explosive went off in Menteng's Adiwinata Road, Central Jakarta. Preliminary investigation revealed that a motorcyclist threw a homemade bomb at a car parked on the road.
