TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police mobilized a total of 2,500 personnel to oversee the implementation of the transition phase of the Large-Scale Social Restriction or Transitional PSBB in Jakarta. The officers were deployed into 243 crowded places, including markets and shopping malls.

“The distribution of the personnel number varies. But the areas have an average of 30 personnel, except quite larger ones,” said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus at his office, South Jakarta, Wednesday, June 17.

He mentioned that Tanah Abang Market has extra security personnel up to 250 as it is the largest textile market in Southeast Asia.

The supervision carried out by the police include the adoption of health protocols such as wearing face masks and maintaining physical distance, as well as limiting the number of visitors to 50 percent of the building’s capacity.

“Based on the evaluation result in the past two days, the capacity of malls and markets is recorded only 20 percent,” Yusri added.

Starting June 15, as many as 80 shopping malls and markets in Jakarta are allowed to reopen under predetermined health protocols during the transitional PSBB period.

The shopping malls require visitors and employees to wear face masks, maintain physical distance and obey the visit rules. Visitors are also obliged to bring essential kits, such as additional face masks, hand sanitizer, tissue, up to personal cutleries, and prayer kits.
