Police Chief on Drug Traffickers: Resist Arrest and Face Bullets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) Chief General Idham Azis issued a strong stand against drug traffickers by ordering immediate execution against those who resist arrest. This was explained in a written statement on Friday, June 5.
“Polri is committed to eradicating drugs and will not hesitate to act assertively and calculated against those drug traffickers,” said Idham Azis in the release.
Since early June this year, the national police have named 25,526 people as suspects in cases related to drugs. Police have also confiscated 6.9 tons of narcotics that consist of 3.52 tons of crystal meth and 3.35 tons of marijuana, while the rest are what is known in the streets as gorilla tobacco and XTC pills.
“This means 27 million members of the public were saved by the National Police from the dangers of drugs,” said Idham who conveyed his appreciation for the special drug task force that successfully uncovered major drug cases.
