TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the implementation of 'new normal', the Indonesian Police have singled out the economy and transportation as sectors that will require supervision from the National Military (TNI) and Police.

“First, the economic sector. What will be supervised? Traditional markets and modern markets such as malls," said Jakarta Police Chief of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Yusri Yunus, when contacted on Friday, May 29.

Secondly, Yusri continued, police and military personnel will also be stationed in the transportation sector to ensure that the public complies with health protocols.

The police are waiting for directions from Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan regarding the number of personnel to be deployed.

With the World Health Organization (WHO) previously stating that COVID-19 will never go away, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has called for the public to compromise, coexist, and make peace with the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to remain productive.

Therefore, a number of provinces indicating that the COVID-19 outbreak has been handled, such as Jakarta, West Java, West Sumatra, and Gorontalo, will soon commence the new normal.
