TEMPO.CO, Ambon - Maluku Governor Murad Ismail said he had secured consent from the central government to turn six of his regions into pilot regions to introduce the protocols of productive and safe society or the new normal protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Maluku is one of the four provinces that are prioritized as a pilot region for the new normal protocols because six out of its 11 regencies or cities have shown positive results in the mitigation of COVID-19,” said Murad in Ambon on Friday, May 22.

The six regions are Tual city, Southeast Maluku regency, Aru Islands, Tanimbar Islands regency (KKT), Southwest Maluku (MBD), and East Seram (SBT).

These regions are among those recognized as the first cluster that enforced the productive and safe protocols, together with Bali province, North Sumatra, and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

The decision was made after a virtual conference with Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto, related ministers, and governors nationwide to discuss the establishment of the new normal health protocols.
