TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the Indonesian Police Force identified by his initials 'GAP' is under investigation by the Metro Jaya police internal affairs unit (Propam) after a video of him showing off his rifle went viral on social media.

The short video shows the Police Brigadier (Bripda) brandishing and cocking his rifle while making a mocking statement.

"So your boyfriend is handsome? Rich? But can he do this?" said GAP in the video while arming his rifle.

Many commented that the police member was acting unprofessionally, displayed arrogance, and abusing his authority as a member of the police force. The video has now been spread by multiple social media accounts.

"The Metro Jaya Police internal affairs have questioned the person for further clarification," said National Police spokesperson Grand Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan to Tempo on Thursday, May 14, 2020.

Initial investigation revealed that GAP recorded the short clip while guarding an ATM cash refilling assignment. The video was shot by GAP's colleague.

According to Propam, GAP initially uploaded the video to his Whatsapp account using the social platform's video story update and had not sent it to anyone else or publish it on any social media platforms. Police also said GAP had reported the social media account that published and spread the video.
