TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Directorate recorded an increase in the number of vehicles leaving Jakarta through Cikampek Utama tollgate ahead of the enactment of the annual mass exodus ban or mudik ban on Friday, April 24.

“On April 22, 2020, based on data at Cikampek Utama tollgate, there was a traffic hike by 27 percent,” said Jakarta Police’s Traffic Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo in Jakarta, Thursday, April 23.

According to the police, the 27-percent hike was quite significant as it was equal to 7,044 vehicles. “The traffic volume increases from 18,753 vehicles on April 21, 2020, to 25,797 vehicles on April 22,” Sambodo outlined.

As previously reported, Jakarta Metro Police were set to block the roads connecting Jakarta and surrounding regions following the ban on Eid homecoming issued by the government. The road blockade will be imposed as part of the police’s holiday safety operation dubbed Operasi Ketupat Jaya 2020.

He asserted that both private vehicles and mass transportations are bound by the policy, and only logistics and fuel trucks that are excluded from the ban.

“Operasi Ketupat related to mudik ban will be started on late Thursday or Friday midnight simultaneously and will complete seven days after Eid al-Fitr or Lebaran,” Sambodo said.
