Police: 30 Coronavirus Assimilation Inmates had Reoffended

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) headquarters announced that there are 30 former inmates in the assimilation and integration program who reoffended amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Yes, we have checked to regional polices that there are 30 inmates who were granted assimilation that reoffended [prior to release],” said Polri spokesman Brigadier General Argo Yuwono in an online discussion on Wednesday.
They committed a variety of criminal offenses ranging from narcotics abuse, fraud, theft, up to theft with violence.
The rising number of reoffending ex-convicts who were released under the pandemic assimilation and integration program pushed the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) Chief Comm. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo instructed ex-convicts to be registered.
Listyo assures that the pandemic re-offenders will receive harsher sanctions compared to their initial sentences. As of April 20, 2020, the Law and Human Rights Ministry released a total of 38,822 former inmates in the coronavirus assimilation and integration.
