TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi Transportation Agency recorded the number of travelers going through the city’s terminal reached 45,354 people throughout March 2020 alone.

“The number continues to decline, especially in recent days,” said the Transportation Agency Head Fatikhun on Tuesday, April 21.

Based on the terminal’s technical management unit (UPTD) data, the number of bus passengers in March dropped when compared to that of February and January that amounted to 47,031 and 54,349, respectively. Most of the homecoming travelers head to regions in West Java.

“The number declines as April begins and worsens after the enforcement of the large-scale social restrictions or PSBB,” Fatikhun added.

He went on to say that the provincial administration has not concluded any decision yet after President Jokowi announced the ban on mudik or Eid mass exodus, which will take effect starting April 24 until the end of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are still waiting for a written statement from the central government to take the next step,” Fatikhun explained.

President Jokowi earlier today announced that the government agreed to prohibit people from going mudik and demanded his staffers to prepare matters related to the ban.
