TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Deputy for Regional Development, Rudy Soeprihadi Prawiradinata, stated that the postponement of the masterplan for the new capital has also resulted in positive impacts.
According to Rudy, as a result of the postponement, the National Development Planning Board can now conduct more accurate studies on various economic sectors set to support the central government in the new capital.
“The masterplan needs to be better in order to garner interest for cooperation from the private sector, Rudy said, on Monday, April 20, 2020.
Initially, the masterplan was targeted for completion in June or July this year, with research on potential economic sectors in the new capital being one of the main points reviewed since the pre-masterplan.
After considering a number of economic factors contributing to the GDP of the new capital, Bappenas estimated that the capital would reinvigorate the service sector. Specifically, the service sector in the new capital would include education, health, and general services.
"It will attract urbanization, but we must ensure the carrying capacity first. (Development) in the first 3 years would still be focused on the infrastructure sector,” he said.
A pre-masterplan for the new capital prepared in cooperation with Mckinsey Indonesia since the end of 2019 is projected to be completed soon. Although he did not elaborate on the study, Rudy revealed that the research included population projections, as well as plans to develop Balikpapan and Samarinda as a new metropolitan area supporting the capital.
Chief of the Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, had previously confirmed that the new capital project will not stop, and instead will be focused on soft work, amid the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the country.
