TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Food Supply Task Force of the National Police Brig. Gen. Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, said that up to 52,000 tons have been imported from China to meet domestic demands.

"To this day there are 52,000 tons of garlic imported from China," Daniel confirmed on Thursday, April 16, 2020.

The abundant supply of garlic will be distributed to markets located across Indonesia to fulfill the needs of residents and food merchants in the lower-income group.

The imports were considered necessary to lower the price of garlic that has currently reached up to IDR 50,000 per kilogram.

Moreover, Daniel claimed that Indonesia's garlic supply in the market is guaranteed to fulfill peoples' demands throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the Eid-Al Fitr in May.

"The government guarantees this," he said.
