TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police asserted that the issuance of warning letters for people violating the large-scale social restrictions or PSBB was not accompanied by confiscation of the driver's license (SIM) or vehicle registration document (STNK) of the violators. The letter which is similar to the traffic ticket is merely a sign that the person has violated the orders.

“No [seizure of STNK and SIM]. We want to educate the public to raise their awareness,” said Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Yusri Yunus on Thursday, April 16.

Yusri explained that the letter would represent the seriousness of the strict physical distancing imposed by the government. The police would list people who got the warning letter.

If they committed a second violation, the police would conduct a decisive action. “There is indeed a sanction but it is the last option. We don’t expect so,” Yustri added.

Since the implementation of the PSBB in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police handed out warning letters to those violating the orders. The letter contained the violator’s identity up to the location where the violation occurred, as well as the violation based on the type of the vehicle, such as motorcycles, cars, and public transportations.
