TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil announced that Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) plans to halt the operations of the commuter line (KRL) on April 18, 2020, following Tangerang Raya’s decision to impose the large-scale social restriction (PSBB).

Areas in Tangerang Raya; including Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, and South Tangerang, will all be under the social restriction starting on April 18.

“In the name of solidarity, we will wait for Tangerang Raya and I was informed by KCI that [on April 18] they will test to halt operations completely. An evaluation will be held after it is imposed,” said the West Java governor.

Bekasi deputy mayor Tri Adhianto reported that the first day of the region’s PSBB saw no passenger congestion at the Bekasi Station. He also asserted that the PSBB in Jakarta can run effectively if satellite regions also implement the same social measures.

The deputy mayor confirmed that KCI has suggested conducting a total operational halt of all its commuter lines or severely cut operational hours in an attempt to break the chain of coronavirus transmission.
