TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Forestry and Funeral Service confirmed that it had buried 639 bodies according to the safety protocol for COVID-19 victims. Out of the figure, 126 tested positive for COVID-19.

"Not all the dead are positive patients," said Jakarta COVID-19 Task Force Head II Catur Laswanto via online press conference at the City Hall on Monday, April 6.

According to Catur, the funeral under the COVID-19 safety protocol is carried out for people under monitoring (ODP), patients under monitoring (PDP), and patients infected with SARS-CoV-2.

"The funeral of people who died while being classified as ODP and PDP, according to the health protocol, must be treated the same as that of COVID-19 patients," he added.

As for the procedure, he outlined, the remains must be wrapped in plastics impermeable to water or air then put in a casket. "The body must be buried immediately within four hours after [the person is] declared dead," Catur said.

"So don't take this wrong. [The number of burials under the COVID-19 protocol] is not in line with the number of positive patients," Catur asserted.
