Police Force to Form Special Teams to Secure COVID-19 Funeral

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metropolitan Police has formed a special team to secure the funeral procession of COVID-19 victims in the Tegal Alur public cemetery (TPU), West Jakarta and the Pondok Rangon public cemetery, East Jakarta.

"A special team consisting of personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Samapta Directorate who had received training, will be tasked with anticipating the rejection of nearby residents against the funeral of COVID-19 victims," said Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations, Commissioner Yusri Yunus when confirmed, on Monday, April 6, 2020.

In addition to handling rejection from nearby residents, Yusri continued, the team has also been prepared to handle families of victims forcibly trying to participate in the funeral process.

According to Yusri, the team will be divided to handle security matters and to assist with the funeral process. "Starting today, we have been running patrols and showing the readiness of the National Police in anticipation of the two public cemeteries," Yusri added.

Yusri explained that each public cemetery will be assigned with a team consisting of 30 personnel. As many as four of them will be equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to assist in the funeral procession if needed, while 26 other members will secure the surrounding area.
