TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) on Wednesday issued a notice recommending the complete stoppage of public transports in its entire access routes across the greater Jakarta area which comprise Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

“As a stakeholder in the field of transportation across the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek), it is deemed necessary to restrict people’s access to areas across the regions through a number of policies,” said Head of BPTJ Polana Banguningsih Pramesti on Wednesday, April 1.

This notice was also issued as a response to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s call for a large-scale social restriction to curb the spread of the virus. BPTJ’s notice effectively applies to transportation agencies and directorate-generals in the affected areas.

Transportation Ministry’s spokesman, Adita Pramesti, confirmed BPTJ’s notice to Tempo and mentioned that it is a temporary notice to all stakeholders as a means of preparation. The recommendation is set to be sent to regional administrations and the Ministry of Health before it is enforced.

The transportation services subjected to the partial restriction will include MRT, LRT, KCI, KAI, and Transjakarta run under the local transportation agencies in Jabodetabek. Others also include inter-provincial buses that stop at type A and type B terminals. Bus managements are also recommended to temporarily stop providing services.
