Physical Distancing, Police Chief: No Reports on Prosecution Yet

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Police Chief, General Idham Azis, reported that no one has yet to be legally prosecuted regarding the government’s warning of physical distancing geared to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. He claimed that his institution is still prioritizing preemptive and humanitarian efforts.
“No (mass gathering) has yet to be prosecuted legally because, Alhamdullilah (thankfully), the Indonesian people are still obedient to the warnings from the National Police," Idham said during a joint working meeting with the House of Representatives' (DPR) Law Commission on Tuesday, March 31.
Warnings for physical distancing have been enforced by the National Police since March 19. The authorities have now disbanded 9,733 mass gatherings across Indonesia.
The notice, geared to curb the coronavirus outbreak, warned the Indonesian people not to hold activities that would gather crowds in public spaces or in neighborhoods.
The Police Chief has also asked the public to remain calm and to increase their vigilance on their respective communities, as well as to follow the information and official warnings issued by the government.
