TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In dealing with the coronavirus or COVID-19 social distancing protocol, South Tangerang Police Chief, Adj. Commissioner Iman Setiawan announced that police will forcefully disperse mass gatherings or any public activities in the area that potentially generates a crowd, which increases the risk of the viral transmission chain.
”The instruction from the Central Government along with the South Tangerang government is pretty clear and restricts public social gathering. The same will apply to entertainment events and wedding receptions,” said Iman after holding a meeting with the COVID-19 task force on Wednesday, March 25.
The police chief expects the public's participation in cutting the chain of coronavirus transmission. ”It is already clear, we will forcefully disperse [mass public gatherings] as our presence representing the country is to protect people. So far, Alhamdulillah, the frequency of public gatherings have drastically declined.”
Meanwhile, local Tangerang Military Command Commander, Colonel Infantry Wisnu Kurniawan expressed support for the move and defended that enforcement is necessary as the World Health Organization (WHO) has highly recommended physical distancing to combat the spread of coronavirus.
