TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Dengue fever outbreak in Bogor city has caused four children died this year.

The Acting Head of the Bogor City Health Office, Sri Nowo Retno, said that Bogor is a Dengue fever endemic area.

She said that since the beginning of January to the beginning of March 2020, there has been an increasing number of dengue fever patients in Bogor City. According to the temporary note, in January there were 43 patients, while in February there were 66 patients and in early March there were 11 patients.

"From that amounts of patients, as many as four child patients infected with dengue fever died," she said.

Compared to last year, the amount of dengue fever patients in 2020 is much lesser. In 2019, there were155 dengue fever sufferers in January, in February there were 162 patients and in March there were 92 patients.

"While in the past three months, the number of dengue fever patients who died in 2019 reached ten people, three people in January, five people in February and two people in March," she said.

She explained that the dengue outbreak was a disease caused by one of the four dengue viruses transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.

"Dengue fever is caused by a virus and the symptoms are almost the same as other diseases," he said.

In laboratory checking, usually on the first day, everything is normal, the doctor will give them fluid therapy. "If on the third day the fever does not reduce, we recommend them to take laboratory test to see the platelets," she said.

On the fourth and fifth day is the critical period of dengue fever. Decreased platelets accompanied by bleeding. "That conditions are accompanied by the lack of incoming fluids which causes DSS," he said.

She urges people to pay attention to the dengue fever and this outbreak should not be covered up by the issue of Covid-19, because dengue disease is more dangerous and can cause death.

"So we should increase mosquito eradication activity (PSN) again, we have started it yesterday we also do fogging in some area," she concluded.
