TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The organizing committee of the upcoming Jakarta Formula E race slated for June 6, 2020, has started to express concerns about the race’s continuity amid the eventual arrival of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in Indonesia.

Since Sunday of March 8, Indonesia has officially reported six cases of positive coronavirus patients out of 23 suspects from Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali.

Just three months ahead of the international event, the Formula E Jakarta organizing committee claims it has started intensive communication with stakeholders in order to determine future steps that can be done in terms of safety. The city’s health agency is also going to be involved in their decision-making.

“We are really paying attention to this condition which will turn into crucial considerations for the Jakarta E-Prix [continuity],” said Formula E Jakarta organizing committee director of communication, Felicia, in an official statement on Saturday, March 7.

Felicia said the input from stakeholders and members of the public to Formula E Jakarta organizing committee continues to be communicated with the Formula E Operations Limited in determining future decisions.

The Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) global outbreak has forced the Formula E races in China and Rome, scheduled to be held on March 21 and April 4, to be canceled.
