Jakarta Formula E Preparation Continues Despite Coronavirus

3 March 2020 22:17 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Formula E racing committee announced that the preparation for the urban electric formula racing series will continue despite the city deciding not to issue permits for large public gatherings after two people were confirmed positive for coronavirus, or COVID-19, in Depok, West Java, on Monday.

“The communication to host the Formula E continues. But as of now, the preparation continues to be carried on,” said the Deputy of the Formula E committee Hilbram Dunar in Jakarta today, March 3.

He further said that the decision to continue with the race’s preparations comes after no official decisions have been made to cancel the racing event slated to be held on June 6, 2020.

Hilbram continued to communicate with the Formula E Operations Limited (FEO) that are also closely monitoring further developments in Jakarta. Currently, event organizers are starting to handle track preparations and have tested the use of geotextile asphalting.

“We sure hope that this can be overcome, but what is important is to prioritize people’s health and safety. But for further developments, we will continue to communicate with related parties,” said the Jakarta Formula E racing committee deputy.
