TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (POLRI) deputy chief, General Commissioner Gatot Eddy Pramono assures that his institution continues to hunt down medical face mask hoarders amid the coronavirus crisis.

Police are also eyeing people hoarding medical equipment and sold at soaring prices. “We will continue to hunt down the hoarders. We will act firm once they are caught,” said Gatot to Tempo on Tuesday, March 3.

He also revealed that police have monitored numerous platforms that sell face masks, such as online retailers.

“We will not let them reap large profits amid a mass coronavirus panic,” Gatot said.

Previously, West Java Police investigated cases related to medical face mask hoarders following the scarcity of the commodity in the West Java region.

“Those found hoarding will be charged under Article 107 of Law No.7/2014,” said West Java Police Chief of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Saptono Erlangga, to Tempo on Tuesday. “They face 5-year imprisonment.”
