TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - People living near the Jakarta Garden City (JGC) complex in Cakung, East Jakarta, barged into AEON Mall, which is built inside the luxury housing complex. They came to protest the property's managers; angry and blaming the mall and complex for the flooding in their neighborhoods.

"According to the residents, there was something wrong with the construction that caused flooding. But the fact is, there are floods are everywhere," Cakung Police Chief Comr. Pandji Santoso told Tempo on Tuesday, February 25.

Pandji said that representatives from both the residents and management had met to talk about the situation. He said that both parties made peace and everything had calmed down.

Nevertheless, the commissioner tasked his men to stand guard, just in case more clashes ensue.

"All police personnel is still on guard at the location," he said.

Videos posted online to social media showed people—adults and teenagers—barging into AEON Mall, throwing rock and road barriers at the building. Some residents were seen beating up the mall's security guards.

A man in one of the videos could be heard saying that the mall's back doors were being thrown rocks at, and that "there are provocateurs."
