TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission VI held a hearing with the directors of Freeport Indonesia today to talk about its post-divestment corporate plans. The House also asked Freeport about the progress of its copper smelter projects.

"We want to know what Freeport is going to do after the divestment," Commission VII deputy chair from PAN faction Eddy Soeparno said, February 19.

Among Freeport's directors who attended the meeting were CEO Tony Wenas and Director of Community Development Claus Wamafma.

SOE Minister Erick Thohir appointed Claus Wamafma as a director at Freeport Indonesia. Claus thus becomes the first Papua native to serve within the board of directors of the mining company.

Before he was appointed as director, Claus acted as senior vice president for community development in Freeport (2014), dealing with CSR duties and community empowerment.

"He is a son of Papua with 20 years or career span in Freeport—starting at the bottom. He was proposed to represent MIND ID in Freeport Indonesia," said the SOE Minister's special staff Arya Sinulingga.

Arya said that Freeport Indonesia has 7,096 workers, of which 2,890 people or 40.7 percent Papuans. Meanwhile, 57.2 percents are non-Papuan Indonesians and the rest are foreign workers.
