TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said the investigation into the disposal site of aborted fetuses in Paseban, Central Jakarta, is still on going. He suspected the perpetrators had thrown hundreds of aborted fetuses into the septic tank.

"We are still investigating where [the fetuses were discarded], but from similar cases like this, [the fetuses] are usually disposed of in septic tanks," said Yusri in Paseban, Central Jakarta, on Friday, February 14, 2020.

In addition, Yusri urged the patients who had had an abortion in Paseban to report, as the practice of abortion in the middle of a residential area was against health standards and could endanger the health of victims.

In the raid on the abortion clinic, the police arrested three perpetrators, namely a doctor (MM), a nurse (RM), and a servant (SI). All three perpetrators are recidivists of the same case.

During its 21-month operation, Yusri said the abortion clinic had received 1,632 patients and aborted 903 fetuses. From the results of the illegal practice, the perpetrators made a profit of Rp 5.4 billion.

The Jakarta Metro Police arrested the abortion clinic practitioners in Paseban on violations of a number of health law, including the Law on Health Workers Number 26 of 2014 and Law on Medical Practices, with a penalty of over 10 years behind bars.
