TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has launched a platform PetaBencana.id, which is expected to minimize risks of disasters in Indonesia. The website which is developed along with Peta Bencana Foundation can be accessed for free.

The agency head Lieut. Gen. Doni Monardo explained the platform involves all communities to report real-time information related to disasters, especially flooding.

“We hope the public will not only report flooding but also during the high intensity of rainfall,” said Doni during the launching event at BNPB Graha, East Jakarta, Tuesday, February 11.

Since 2017, PetaBencana.id could only be accessed in several cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya. “But starting this year, [the platform] is available in all Indonesian regions. We will also provide other features, such as on forest fire, earthquake, fog, volcano eruption, and strong winds,” Doni added.

According to Doni, the information displayed on the page will be beneficial for the public, especially those living in the downstream areas as they will be informed about possible flash floods and start their preparation following the report from people in the upstream areas.
